A Charge With Serious Consequences
Prostitution charges can be brought against the provider of services, the customer paying for the services and any middleman or pimp. In Kansas City, the solicitor, or "John," as well as the prostitute, is aggressively prosecuted. Under current prostitution laws, first-time offenses are usually charged as misdemeanors; subsequent offenses can be charged as felonies.
Many of these cases do not involve the police interfering in a transaction between an actual prostitute and customer. In fact, most prosecutions for solicitation or prostitution arise out of a police sting in which a trained officer impersonates either the prostitute or the "john."
In addition to the embarrassment associated with these charges, if one of the parties is under 18 years of age, a conviction or guilty plea to prostitution or solicitation may require you to register as a sex offender for at least seven years. A Business Often Conducted Through the Internet
These days, escort business and other prostitution activity is largely conducted through the Internet.
